It’s many years since I first played the Notts Golf Club, better known to many as Hollinwell. How well I remember the long drive, winding through the trees and suddenly, a view of the clubhouse nestling down below. A fine course indeed, but perhaps not for those with a faint heart, especially when the wind is blowing.
Many years ago my dear friend, Christy O’Connor, won the John Player Classic there. The first prize was £25,000, the richest in the world of golf at that time – very different from today but a huge amount of money. John Jacobs, Eric Brown and myself finished within touching distance at the top of the leaderboard but it was Christy who took away the big cheque. Happy memories.
The splendid traditional clubhouse, the Pro’s Shop just a few yards away with that special air that only some pro’s shops have, of the past joining up with the present. I’m sure you’ll enjoy your golf, and the hospitality of Hollinwell. I most certainly did..
